Ding! Update!

Sat Aug 15, 2009, 6:18 AM
I haven't updated this thing in a looooooooong time, mainly because I could think of nothing to post. Still don't, really. So instead I'll just post a bunch of crap about projects that should have been done last year (except for Achromatic, which I'm taking my time with).

Quazar Calahan: Yes, I still intend to finish the next QC installment, but it's gotten to the point where I'm likely to restart the animation process, simply because I started it when my skills were even less polished than they are now. In fact, I'm tempted to re-make the first episode, only better. Who knows.

Mr. Devious: You've had a summer update. Quit yer belly-achin'.

Fer Spartaaa, Bitches!: I might finish it before summer is over, if I can tear myself away from newer projects.

Achromatic: Still refining the script. I want this thing to be as awesome as possible.

Other crap: Hey, lookit that, I started another flash cartoon. This one features a character I came up with as a joke over the school year, but who has quickly turned into one of my favourite things ever. You'll see.

Also, I want to do some more comic-type stuff, possibly as a bit of an introduction the Achromatic Universe, but no story ideas have come to me.

Feh.

And so, Maich comments on the terrible poll that has been going on for far too long...

"Haters are haters because your picture or poem or what-have-you is FLAWED. Like every thing else, art has FLAWS. And if you can't accept that something has flaws, you can't improve upon your work. And if you can't accept that some people aren't going to like your work, DON'T POST IT. This is an ART community, people! You can't expect everyone who sees work you've posted to be your friend. Haters are how we improve, and if it gets you angry or upset, then you're not really an artist. Shame on deviantArt for perpetuating this useless ideal that haters are a bad thing.

Now can we PLEASE make a new, less idiotic poll."

It's called 'criticism.' Some of it is worth something, some of it is not, just sack the hell up and deal with it.

Kids in particular (and they are kids, mostly...at least that particular poll appears to have been of some use) seem to be getting increasingly sheltered from anything negative. Unfortunately for them, life isn't all sunshine and puppies (even when it is, you end up getting skin cancer and some of the puppies have rabies), so when they have to head out into the real world (or hell, even enter the cultural sphincter that is the internet) they can't deal with any feedback that doesn't border on idolatry.

Haters are gonna hate. The best thing you can do for your art is listen to them.

Either someone on flickr swiped your avatar, or you need to start posting your LEGO stuff here. Holy shit.

HEY. I was just thinking 'I wonder what Erik is doing for school next year...' Will you tell me the answer?
:iconbrokenegg:
Visual and Creative Arts, year 2. Effectively a continuation of Art Fundamentals, since my portfolio was a smidgen of a point shy from getting me into the program I wanted (would have gotten me in last year, too, which is a piss-off). Next year I intend to win at this portfolio business.

You?
